Swift Basic Search

In SharePoint there are two types of Search Site Templates – Basic and Enterprise. Both have a problem in that once a user has performed a search there is no obvious way of navigating away from the results page.

We have created a site template that creates a Basic Search site, that does have navigation tabs and a breadcrumb included – meaning your users can navigate away from the search results…

There is not currently a “Basic Search Center with Navigation” template. The site template was actually created with SharePoint Designer, and then saved as a Site Template.

However, the “Enterprise Search Center” in SharePoint 2010 uses the Publishing features of SharePoint – and therefore you cannot simply save a configured site as a template. In other words, to create an “Enterprise Search Center with Navigation” template would require a much larger development effort.
